Speaking Stone Translation One

Found in an archaeological dig in Iceland, while excavating a village of an ancient Norse tribe.

It’s hot, too hot, and the humidity in the air is not helping at all. As I sit on this hill overlooking this vast jungle, the thought goes through my mind; I wonder what it will look like thousands of years from now. As for now it’s hard to breathe, which is setting me on edge. Sonya hasn’t returned yet since she went into the dark jungle. She was only supposed to do some scouting on this mysterious beast that has been terrorizing villages near here. The others of my company are helping the villagers secure themselves against more attacks. As for myself I am bored with nothing to do. Ever since the fight several days ago with that dragon, I’ve been pretty much useless to the company. The dragon tore my arms pretty good leaving me in the state than I am in now. Though I am healing faster than humans would, it is not fast enough. I long to go into the jungle and search for my oldest and dearest friend, we have survived many things, however for some reason I am worried about what is hiding in that jungle. As for now I am keeping my mind occupied by etching my thoughts onto this stone in the dragon language. My old mentor Ancient told me what would happen when I carved the dragon language into stone, even now I feel the heat within the stone as it burns with the magic of the dragon language. I have done this several times before on my journey, but never before has the burning of the magic caught my mind before. Perhaps it is because I’m worried of Sonya and I need something to take my mind off of my worries. Once again I can’t help but wonder, what will become of this place in a thousand years, what will become of us? Will this place be the end of us? As far as I’m concerned this place and what hides in that dark jungle can try to defeat us, but I intend to live many more years. I’m stubborn that way; I think I get it from my mother.

Dragon, son of Kirianadréth

Year 343 of my reign as King of the dragons
